Seasonal Indexes
Overview
In the system, you can manage seasonal indexes of product groups, namely:
- Group items by seasonal groups.
- Register seasonal groups of business regions.
- Register seasonal fluctuations of each group by month or by week.
- Register seasonal indexes (both manually and automatically) by various seasonal groups of business regions.
You can use seasonal indexes to register seasonal fluctuations in demand for product groups. They are considered during sales forecasting.
When you fill plans by formula, you can use the seasonal index value in the list of operands.
When you adjust plans filled by sources, you can select the Apply seasonal index option in the settings of the planning data source.
To use seasonal indexes, follow the steps below:
- Go to Master data and settings > Budgeting and planning and select the Seasonal indexes checkbox and specify how often you want to specify them: every week or every month.
- Fill the list of Seasonal groups and the Seasonal group attribute in the Item cards.
- In the Seasonal indexes workplace, fill the values for all periods for each group.
- In planning documents with the Fill in using formula filling option, add a seasonal index to the formula.
- In the Planning data sources list, select the Apply seasonal index parameter.
Viewing Actual Seasonal Indexes
- Go to Planning > Settings and catalogs and then click Seasonal indexes.
- Select the Item groups and Business region groups filters.
- On the Indexes tab, review the values of the existing seasonal indexes.
- Go to the Chart tab and select Entered values or Normalized values, and select the Chart type.
- Review the chart of historical seasonal index values and analyze trends for different seasonal groups using appropriate charts.
Seasonal Groups
Seasonal item groups combine items with similar seasonal fluctuations in demand. This allows you to use seasonal indexes to account for the impact of external factors on sales and plan demand more accurately.
Creating Seasonal Groups for Items
- Go to Planning > Settings and catalogs and then click Seasonal indexes.
- Click Create to create a Seasonal item group.
- Specify the Description.
- Click Save and close.
Assigning Items to Seasonal Groups
- Go to Master data and settings > Items (under Master data).
- Open the required item and go to the Attributes tab.
- Click Planning and marketing and fill the Seasonal group field.
- Click Save and close.
One Item can be assigned to only one seasonal group.
You can specify a default value for a seasonal group in the Item kind.
Business Regions
Creating Seasonal Groups for Business Regions
- Go to Budgeting and planning > Settings and catalogs > Seasonal groups of business regions.
- Click Create.
- Specify the Description.
- Click Save and close.
Assigning Business Regions to Seasonal Groups
Before you assign business regions to seasonal groups, select the Business regions checkbox in Master data and settings > CRM and marketing.
- Go to CRM & Marketing > Settings and catalogs > Business regions.
- Open the required business region and specify the Seasonal group.
Note: one Business region is assigned to only one seasonal group.
Registering Seasonal Indexes
Registering Seasonal Indexes by Sales Statistics
- Go to Budgeting and planning > Settings and catalogs and then click Seasonal indexes.
- Click Calculate by sales statistics.
- Open the Select period menu.
- Select the time horizon and base date.
- Select the statistics for seasonal index calculation: number of sales or sales amount.
- Click Custom filter to specify the scope of statistics.
- Click Calculate. The system will automatically calculate seasonal indexes and fill them in the table.
- Click Save.
Registering Seasonal Indexes Manually
- Go to Budgeting and planning > Settings and catalogs and then click Seasonal indexes.
- Manually specify seasonal indexes by time fence (months or weeks).
- Click Save.
For example: the company sells consulting services. In the first month of the quarter, demand for consulting services is 3 times higher than in the other months. In that case we create the Consulting services seasonal group and specify 3 for months number 1, 4, 7, 10 and 1 for all other months.
